The Indian women’s captain was born on March 8, 1989, in Moga, Punjab, to father Harmandar Singh Bhullar and mother Satwinder Kaur.
Harman’s father was a sportsperson and later worked as a clerk in the local judicial court, while her mother, Satwinder Kaur, is a homemaker. Harmanpreet Kaur also has a younger sister named Hemjeet Kaur.
According to Harmanpreet Kaur, she completed her BA degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. However, when she was appointed as a DSP, the Punjab Police reportedly could not find any college-related records. According to her friend, the Indian all-rounder’s education was completed at Hansraj Mahila Mahavidyalaya.
How Harmanpreet Kaur Started Her Cricket Journey?
Harmanpreet Kaur’s cricket journey began at Gyan Jyoti School Academy, where she trained under Kamaldeesh Singh Sodhi. It is believed that during her early days of training, she played cricket alongside men’s players.
Kaur made her cricket debut at the age of 20 during a World Cup match against Pakistan, where her performance throughout the tournament was above average.
The Arjuna Award winner made her T20 debut in 2009 against England, but her performance was not very impressive. Her breakthrough moment came in 2010 when she scored her maiden half-century during India’s tour of England.
Apart from representing India, Kaur also plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League as the captain, where she earns ₹2.50 crore per season.
When Did Harmanpreet Kaur Become The Captain of India Women’s Team?
On October 29, 2016, the Punjab-born women’s cricketer was officially announced as the captain of India’s T20I team.
Later, on June 8, 2022, Kaur was appointed as the captain of the Indian women’s team across all formats. Her captaincy record includes a 100% win rate in Tests, 64% in ODIs, and 61.2% in T20Is.
