Deepti Sharma’s Early Life and Family Background
The 28-year-old women’s cricketer was born on August 24, 1997, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Sharma’s father, Bhagwan Sharma, is a retired Indian Railways employee, while her mother, Sushilaa, is a homemaker.
Apart from Deepti, the family has four more sons, all of whom are older than her. Her elder brother Sumit Sharma was a former pacer for Uttar Pradesh, while her other brothers are Pankaj, Abhishek, and Prashant.
How Deepti Sharma Started Her Cricket Journey?
The left-handed batter developed an interest in cricket when she was just nine years old. During her early days, she used to practice with her elder brother Sumit.
During one of those practice sessions at Eklavya Sports Academy in Agra, Sharma hit the stumps directly from a distance of 50 metres. This impressive moment caught the attention of former India women’s selector Hemlata Kala, and from there, her cricket journey began to take shape.
Sharma made her international debut against South Africa in 2014. One of the biggest milestones of her career came against Ireland, where the Indian women’s cricketer built a record-breaking 320-run partnership with Poonam Raut. Sharma contributed 188 runs in that historic stand.
She was also part of India’s squad for the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup. Although India lost the final against England, Sharma emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament. She scored 216 runs across eight matches and also picked up 12 wickets in nine games.

The best bowling figures of Sharma’s career came against Sri Lanka in Ranchi, where she registered impressive figures of 6/20.
Deepti Sharma’s list of milestones does not end here. In June 2018, she received the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for Best Domestic Senior Women’s Cricketer from the BCCI for her outstanding performances.
The UP Warriorz star was bought by the franchise for ₹2.6 crore during the inaugural WPL auction in 2023, and she justified the price tag with her performances. In 2024, she became the first women’s cricketer in WPL history to take a hat-trick when she achieved the feat against Delhi Capitals. She was also honoured with the MVP Award for the 2024 season.
Sharma was also part of India’s squad for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup, where she made a crucial contribution to the team’s campaign and was named Player of the Tournament for her impressive performances.
