Hampshire Cricket has experienced a whirlwind twenty-four hours, completely backflipping on their decision to sign New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn. Now, the cricket fans have also weighed in on the situation.

What Did the Cricket Fans Say About Hampshire Cricket Dropping Scott Kuggeleijn?

Hampshire Cricket took to their social media handles on Wednesday and officially announced their decision to cut Kuggeleijn.

“Having reflected and listened to feedback from our staff and supporters, Hampshire Cricket can confirm that Scott Kuggeleijn will not represent the club,” the statement read.

But the fans demanded justice, called out the decision and questioned the club’s decision to include Kuggeleijn in the first place.

One fan wrote, “Who is resigning and carrying the can for the disgraceful initial decision – woeful management.”

A content creator clarified, “You have made the right decision. Fact remains that you shouldn’t have gone to him in the first place. The damage this has caused, might not go away as quickly as you want it to.”

Another fan pointed out, “You did the right thing – but what were you even thinking in the first place – a huge distraction for a squad battling the drop … in afraid heads need to roll.”

An X user wrote, “Shouldn’t have signed him in the first place!”

However, one fan presented a different take. “Giving in to the twitter police. He was acquitted of all charges and has played for 9 professional teams since: what makes hants so special,” they posted.

The trouble actually started when the 34-year-old was quietly slotted into Hampshire’s 15-member squad for their County Championship clash against Warwickshire. Not even bothering to put out a press release or officially announce his arrival as an overseas replacement.

The backlash was immediate. Why? Back in 2015, he was handed serious charges. But despite his acquittal in 2017, fans haven’t been able to come to terms with the situation. Sparking demonstrations.
