How Gaby Lewis Started Her Cricket Journey
Lewis began her journey at YMCA Cricket Club in Dublin as a child from a multi-generational cricket family. It is certainly surprising that she was only 13 when she received a call-up to Ireland’s senior international team in July 2014 for the ECB Women’s Twenty20 Cup.
Talking about Lewis’ full international debut, it came against the Netherlands in August 2014, while her first T20I debut was against South Africa in September 2014. The Scorchers star, born in the 21st century, became the youngest cricketer in cricket history to make her debut at just 13 years and 166 days old.
In June 2022, she stepped in as captain of the T20 side for the first time. On October 15, 2024, Lewis was officially announced as Ireland’s captain, taking over from Laura Delany at just 23 years of age.
