England Women completed a 3-0 series whitewash over Ireland after winning the final game on September 6. However, even before yesterday’s match, Lauren Winfield-Hill had spoken out about Irish cricket, and looking at the entire series, her comments now seem quite spot on.

Lauren Winfield-Hill’s Caution to England Against Ireland Women’s Team

Recently, the English cricketer appeared on the Wisden Podcast, where she discussed the England vs Ireland women’s series, with only two matches completed at that point. During the conversation, Winfield-Hill not only shared her take on the series but also called Ireland women’s cricket weak. Also, the situation the England team might find themselves in.

Winfield-Hill said, “I completely agree, and I think it’s about the skill set and the threat like, can you pose repeated threat against a team like Ireland?”

“Because if you’re struggling to do that against one of the weaker teams, then you know it sort of doesn’t bode bow hugely well against the best teams,” Winfield-Hill added.

However, the 36-year-old didn’t make the comment with the intention of putting the Girls in Green down. It was simply her answer to the podcaster’s question about England’s mentality when facing one of the weaker teams and how they approach such games.

That said, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Winfield-Hill’s words of caution were heard, paid attention to, and put into action.

The right-handed batter’s assessment proved to be accurate, as just one day after she made those comments, England Women not only won the series 3-0 but also made the entire series look completely one-sided.

Talking about the final match, England were bowled out for 295 after playing 48.5 overs, while the Irish cricketers were dismissed for just 177 in 44.2 overs while chasing the target.

Sophia Dunkley delivered a brilliant performance, scoring 119 runs, and for her outstanding century, she was named not only Player of the Match but also Player of the Series.
