Ravindra Jadeja’s future is quietly under scrutiny. At 37, you get few chances. Ask Rohit Sharma, 39, who has to defend his place with every game and high score. Now, veteran analyst Vimal Kumar has outlined a clear-eyed roadmap for the all-rounder.

Vimal Kumar Urges Ravindra Jadeja to Follow Rohit Sharma’s Blueprint

Kumar, appearing on his YouTube channel, dissected the Indian squad for the West Indies ODIs. Particularly addressing the quietly rising doubts about Jadeja’s future.

“For 37-year-old (Ravindra) Jadeja, what matters is that whatever opportunities he has got, he definitely has them too, which Rohit Sharma did in England,” Kumar said. “All the selectors and critics were saying.

“He (Rohit Sharma) scored runs. Once you score runs, no one can stop you. No one can say anything.”

The parallel is striking. Sharma’s place is under question as the Men in Blue prepare for the 2027 World Cup. Then came the hundred at Lord’s. 138 off 110 balls. Becoming the first Indian to score an ODI hundred at the venue.

Kumar’s message to Jadeja is similarly uncompromising. Selection debates and ageism vanish the moment a player delivers.

“So the same thing is with (Ravindra) Jadeja. Jadeja is an excellent fielder, bowler, and batsman,” Kumar added. “Maybe his recent ODI numbers aren’t same.

“But this is the opportunity. There is a three-match ODI series. If Jadeja has a 5-wicket haul, 2-3 wickets, that means if Jadeja has 7-8 wickets, an economical spell, a couple of 50s, why not?”

Jadeja’s stats reflect his stature: 210 ODI matches, 2,905 runs, and 232 wickets, and a gun fielder, capable of turning games in a flash. Yet, modern selection committees are notoriously unforgiving. But match-winning performances can silence them.

“He will always be in reckoning,” Kumar concluded.

Jadeja has nothing left to prove. But a transition plan might be on the cards soon. His replacement? Washington Sundar is hit-and-miss in ODIs. Axar Patel’s performances have tapered a bit in the last year or two. He himself is 32.

New blood? Maybe R. Sai Kishore. But is he ready? The fans don’t know yet.
