South Africa faces an unprecedented test. Their pride, the fast-bowling unit, is without their premier bowlers. All out with injuries. Despite this, captain Temba Bavuma remains confident as the Proteas gear up for the Australia series.
What Did Temba Bavuma Say About the South African Bowling Attack?
Bavuma, talking to reporters on Wednesday, refused to back down. Emphasising that raw pace remains the lifeblood of South African cricket.
“I think we’re going to have to make the most of the bowling resources that we have from the seam department,” Temba Bavuma said. “There are options there.
“I think it’s just how smartly we approach managing the loads of our fast bowlers. We want teams, when they come here, to know that they’re going to have to deal with our fast bowlers. That’s part of our DNA.”
Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka, and Ottneil Baartman are out with hamstring strains. Nandre Burger is sidelined with a lower-back issue.

The replacements? Lizaad Williams, Marco and Duan Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Corbin Bosch, and Nqobani Mokoena. All sharing a combined experience of just 72 ODI.
That’s not it. South Africa has only played 3 ODIs this year. Pretty low considering next year’s World Cup.
“It’s been a while since this ODI team has come together,” Temba Bavuma added. “I think there’s a strong desire to look after our ODI record of late and ensure that we’re putting our best foot forward out there on the field.
“From a team perspective, we generally know who those core players are (for the World Cup). I don’t think we will move away too much from that. We’ll see new faces coming in, but probably that England series will be closer to what we think we will have for the World Cup.”
Until then, South Africa’s youthful pace battery must sink or swim. Carrying forward a legacy built on fire and fury.
