Cricketers spend the majority of their time away from home. Series bleed into tournaments, flights cross continents overnight, and families adapt to an itinerant reality governed by fixture lists. Now, Jos Buttler has opened up about the same.

What Did Jos Buttler Say About Cricket’s Toll on His Family?

Buttler, appearing on the “For The Love Of Cricket” podcast, made a candid confession about the awkwardness of stepping back into a household that has learned to function without him.

“Come home, and you’re sort of still, you’ve been away for a bit, so you’re finding your place back… You know there’s routines,” Buttler said. “Obviously the kids have got routines, and everyone kind of knows who does what and when.

“And sort of one day I come back in, and you sort of feel like, ‘I’m just getting in the way here,’ or you know, some ‘we don’t usually do it like this. We usually do this’”.

Buttler picked up the hamstring injury during England’s ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley. He attempted to bat through the discomfort, despite visibly being in pain, but had to retire hurt.

However, the injury turned out to be serious enough to rule him out of the upcoming series against Pakistan. The English wicketkeeper confirmed the same after admitting how it might change his personal life for a few days now.

“After a while, I’ll get there, and now it will be nice to have an extended period of time at home and spend a lot of time away. So plenty of positives to take from it. But I definitely won’t be fit for Pakistan. So, I’ll be missing that one,” Buttler added.

For now, Buttler will have to conquer a different kind of challenge: figuring out where he fits in the family kitchen rotation.
