Richa Ghosh’s Early Life and Family Background
The 22-year-old cricketer was born on September 28, 2003, in Siliguri, West Bengal. Her father, Manabendra Ghosh, was a local club-level cricketer and is an umpire from Siliguri, while her mother, Sapna Ghosh, is a homemaker. Apart from this, she has an elder sister, Somashree Ghosh, who has studied media.
Ghosh completed her schooling at Margaret Sister Nivedita English School in Siliguri, West Bengal. Talking about cricket, the cricketer, inspired by her father, started playing at the Baghajatin Club nets at a very young age.
How Richa Ghosh Started Her Cricket Journey
Due to the lack of girls’ cricket academies in Siliguri, Ghosh used to practise alongside boys, which may have contributed to her power-hitting ability. Her explosive performances helped the West Bengal-born cricketer rise through the domestic ranks while representing Bengal, eventually bringing her to the selectors’ attention.
Ghosh was just 16 when she was named in India’s T20 World Cup squad. She was later included in the squad for the 2020 Tri-Nation Series as well.
Wearing jersey No. 13, Ghosh made her T20I debut against Australia in the Tri-Nation Series final on February 12, 2020. She received her BCCI central contract in May 2021.
In August 2021, she was called up to the national team for India’s series against Australia. On September 21, 2021, Ghosh made her ODI debut against Australia, followed by her Test debut on December 21, 2023.
The former London Spirit star did not feature in The Hundred this time, but she has represented RCB in the WPL since 2023. In the 2023 inaugural auction, Bengaluru signed Richa Ghosh for ₹1.90 crore.
