English cricket has suffered another major blow following Kate Cross’ retirement decision, with Fi Morris also announcing that she will retire at the end of 2026. Cross’ words may have influenced Morris in deciding that now is the right time to call time on her career.
Fi Morris Thinks It’s the Right Time to Retire
Recently, the 32-year-old was seen in an interview with LancsTV, which was posted on the Lancashire Women’s official Instagram page. During the interview, Fi Morris revealed that she will retire at the end of this season and also spoke about Kate Cross’ thinking while explaining the reasons behind her decision.
Morris said, “Loads of reasons, and probably ones who won’t ever have time to go through more, but I think it’s just time.”
“I think Crossy (Kate Cross) said the similar things the other day, where, ‘One day you just wake up, and you know it’s the right time,’ and it’s probably been slightly different for me,” she added.
For your information, both Cross and Morris play for Lancashire Women. Crossy has spent 21 years with the Red Rose, while Morris has completed four seasons with the team.
Morris began her journey with Lancashire in 2023, and she made an immediate impact in her first season, scoring 396 runs in 23 matches and taking 19 wickets. In the 2024 season, Morris once again shone as a superb all-rounder, scoring 523 runs in 25 matches and claiming 29 wickets.
The 2025 season proved historic for both the all-rounder and Lancashire, as Morris played a key role in the team’s double-trophy triumph, winning both the Vitality County T20 Cup and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.
Morris never played an international match for England, but that has done little to diminish her value in English cricket. Her domestic record speaks for itself, and she has remained an important asset for Lancashire throughout her career.
