It appears there are some cracks in the relationship between Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni. A deep bond, now undercut by who owns what and how much. Among the wave of rumours, former India captain Kris Srikkanth has stepped up to clear the air with his trademark bluntness.
What Did Kris Srikkanth Say About CSK and MS Dhoni?
The tensions started with Dhoni’s intention to buy an equity stake in CSK. Initially putting on an offer of a 25% stake, later revising it to 18-20%. The counteroffer by CSK?
3.5-5%. Leading to a reported standoff. However, Srikkanth remains adamant that cooler heads will prevail.
“Let me also be very frank. These are all rumours,” Srikkanth said on his YT channel. “But coming to MS Dhoni, I really don’t know whether it’s a real standoff. I have a feeling it gets sorted, Honey.
“Because it’s like CSK is married to Dhoni. Dhoni is married to CSK. Let’s put it that way. So I don’t think there can be a break-off or what do you call standoff. Whatever it is. Okay? There might be some, agree to disagree, disagree to agree, whatever it is.”
While acknowledging that disagreements can happen in any professional environment, he stressed that a total break-off is entirely out of the question.
“I mean, I don’t know about [it] because I can’t talk on rumours, dear viewers. But then if you say that these rumours could be true, but I would only say that I think they will come to an agreement 100%,” Srikkanth concluded.
Since the inception of the IPL, Dhoni has been the heartbeat of the Yellow Army. But if the standoff continues? There could be a split.
Teams like Lucknow Super Giants might be ready to pull all the strings to land Dhoni and change the culture. Even if it means a short relationship of one season.
But will the split happen? Srikkanth doesn’t think so. The CSK fans hope it doesn’t come down to this.
