Smriti Mandhana, one of the biggest names in women’s cricket, has been dominating the headlines since she broke Mithali Raj’s record during the Women’s Asia Cup 2026.
Meanwhile, Annesha Ghosh, who was part of the broadcast commentary team during the India Women’s match against Hong Kong, believes one positive sign for the Indian cricketer could be a threat to all their opponents.
What Did Annesha Ghosh Say About Smriti Mandhana?
Recently, Ghosh appeared on the “Wisden Cricket Podcast”, where she spoke with the hosts about India Women’s vice-captain Mandhana’s record-breaking knock against Hong Kong, which Ghosh witnessed first-hand as part of the broadcast team in Dubai. During the conversation, Ghosh explained how Mandhana always deflected the praise she received towards her teammates and why that could be dangerous for the opposition.
Ghosh said, “She wouldn’t make a throwaway statement to come across as cool. She’s inherently cool. But, as we all know, she’s utterly self-effacing, always deflecting praise onto her teammates, onto her opposition team members.”
“So for her to say that, you know, ‘I’m just getting started,’ that is dangerous signs for the opposition. Because here is somebody who has realised over the past four-five years in specific that she is meant for greatness.” She added.
During the same podcast, the broadcaster also described India Women’s opening batter as a “prolific run-getter” and explained how the cricket world witnessed three phases of the 30-year-old’s career — the prodigy, the protagonist and now the powerhouse.
Mandhana will be seen in action against Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup semi-final on September 10, 2026. The cricket world will be hoping that India reach the final and perhaps even lift the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 title.
Looking at Jersey No. 18’s performances so far, Smriti Mandhana has scored 19 runs against Thailand, 124 against Hong Kong and 9 runs against Pakistan.
