The ICC has nominated Samarawickrama for the Player of the Month award, marking a proud moment not only for her but also for Sri Lanka Women’s cricket.
After her successful performances against Pakistan, the ICC nominated her for the award, and the 28-year-old women’s cricketer shared a heartfelt memory on Instagram.
Samarwickrama wrote in the caption, “It all started with a little girl, a bat, and a big dream.🏏❤️. Looking back at these school cricket memories reminds me how far I’ve come and why I started.”
“So many memories, sacrifices, lessons, smiles, and dreams behind this journey.✨. That little girl is still inside me — dreaming bigger, working harder, and never giving up. 🇱🇰,” she added.

Talking about Samarawickrama’s performance, the Sri Lanka Women’s vs Pakistan ODI-T20 cricket tour began on July 23.
In the first ODI match, her bat did not make a major impact, but the Colombo-born cricketer bounced back strongly in the second ODI by scoring a brilliant century. Her innings at Hambantota earned widespread praise and made Samarawickrama one of the biggest talking points of the series.
Wickrama continued her excellent form in the third ODI as well, playing an unbeaten knock of 71 runs. In the Sri Lanka Women’s vs Pakistan T20 series, her performance was comparatively average, with quiet outings in the first and final matches. However, her explosive 37-run innings in the second T20 played an important role in Sri Lanka’s victory.
Apart from Harshitha Samarawickrama, the other nominees for the ICC Player of the Month award include England cricketer Nat Sciver-Brunt and West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews.
