English cricketer Harry Brook is a delight to watch. But his batting becomes an eyesore for the fans. No one likes his tendency to produce a string of low scores. Especially when looking good.
What Did Harry Brook Say About His Batting?
In a “Test Match Special” clip, Brook opened up about his tendency to throw away brilliant starts, dropping a truth bomb that every cricket tragic can get behind.
“If supporters get frustrated, then imagine how frustrated I get. Yeah, of course. It’s a frustrating game, isn’t it?” Brook said. “One day you could be blitzing it everywhere, be 30 off 10 balls and then just get out.
“It’s annoying. I want to be a match winner. I want to be whether that’s 30 off 10 balls or 200 off 500 balls. I just want to win matches, and I never understand why there isn’t a match-winning column in your stats.”
The 27-year-old’s recent The Hundred campaign tells a similar story. His last 4 scores read 19, 23, 10 and 49. One minute he’s blitzing the boundary rope everywhere; the next, he’s trudging back to the pavilion scratching his head.

But Brook surely doesn’t care about padding his averages. Or ticking off arbitrary milestone numbers just for the sake of it. The only metric that counts is winning the game.
“I just think that’s all that matters really. All I want to do is try and have a match-winning influence on the game,” Brook concluded.
Yes, getting out cheaply after looking a million dollars is deeply annoying. For the fans, the coaches, and most of all, for Brook. But it’s the exact same fearlessly positive intent that wins games out of nowhere.
The fans would certainly expect some big scores from him when the series against Pakistan kicks off on August 19.
