Travis Head has zero filter. Marnus Labuschagne realised this, along with the Australian opener’s tough love that involves real estate threats.
What Did Travis Head Say to Marnus Labuschagne?
Head, appearing on “Triple M”, answered whether he had a tough conversation with Labuschagne. About getting his act together and not making it look too difficult.
“Yup. Simple answer is yes. I said to him, it was actually make-or-break,” Head said. “I pulled him aside in Mackay.
“Now he’s South African, and we go to Perth to play ODI, which is just up the road from his holiday house. And I’m talking like, on the river, beautiful big thing. We had everyone there the other year.”
Labuschagne’s recent form is under the scanner. Why? His scores against Bangladesh: 1, 31 and 4. Not even reaching three figures in tests since the 2023 Ashes.
The stakes? Simple. Score runs or risk losing access to the ultimate riverside pad.
“I said to him, like, ‘Can you please pull your finger out and make sure you’re in South Africa [on tour]? Otherwise, you have to leave the keys to this holiday house in the letterbox, and I’m still going.'”
Head laughed as he recalled the incident. Classic modern cricket banter. But also highlights the fierce internal expectations.
Fortunately for Labuschagne, he managed to answer the call, finding his way back onto the touring party and keeping his property rights intact. For now.
“He (Marnus Labuschagne) didn’t quite get the runs. But he’s found himself back on tour, which is good,” Head added.
“And he’s still with us, and I can’t wait to go to his holiday house if there’s anything that comes from it. Hope he gets some runs, but if he doesn’t, we have a big send-off at his holiday house.”
Labuschagne can rest easy knowing his mates are right behind him. Mostly just to check out his waterfront views.
