Marizanne Kapp’s sudden decision has shocked not only South African cricket fans but cricket fans around the globe. The decision is that she will no longer play in the WBBL. Fans were clearly unhappy with the women’s cricketer’s decision, with some even calling it a “Worst Decision”.

WBBL Fans Left Disappointed After Marizanne Kapp Withdraws

On September 15, 2026, the South African women’s cricketer decided to remove herself from the WBBL. The Melbourne Stars explained that Kapp wants to focus on her “upcoming international duties”.

The team’s official handle wrote, “Marizanne Kapp has withdrawn from WBBL|12, as she focuses on her upcoming international duties. Thanks for your contributions, Kappie – hope to see you back in green soon 🤝.”

For context, South Africa is scheduled to play a Test match against India on December 9, 2026, just four days after the WBBL final. From the team’s point of view, the decision may therefore make sense.

However, fans appeared unhappy with the 36-year-old’s withdrawal.

One fan wrote, “Worst Decision.”

Another commented, “Wow 😮 Well that’s that then. 😢”

One of the fans wrote, “There should be some other reason.”

While another unnecessarily blamed “Anaya Bangar.”

“@kappie777 knows what she is doing. Will miss you in the WBBL. But will enjoy in the International games ❤️❤️❤️,” one of the fans wrote in a positive way.

Kapp has played for four different teams in the WBBL so far — Sydney Sixers, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars. The Gqeberha-born cricketer started her WBBL journey in 2015 and has played 11 seasons in total.

However, the upcoming 12th season will not see the current Melbourne Stars star in action, following her decision to withdraw from the tournament.

Kapp’s contribution to the WBBL has been truly special throughout the tournament. She became the first overseas player to reach the milestone of 100 appearances in the tournament.

Her bowling has also been exceptional. In the very first WBBL season in 2015, she finished with 17 wickets at an economy rate of just 4.28.

But it wasn’t just with the ball that the African star made her mark in Australia’s league. Her bat also did plenty of talking, with her knock of 93 off just 51 balls still remembered by fans today.
