India received deeply saddening news today as prominent educationist and philanthropist Dr. DY Patil passed away after battling prolonged illness and age-related health complications. Following the unfortunate news, Indian cricketers Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav expressed their grief and paid tribute, remembering the contribution and legacy of the respected personality.
Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav’s Tribute After Dr. DY Patil’s Demise
Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil, popularly known as Dr. DY Patil, made a significant contribution to education and politics, but his connection with Indian cricket and sports was equally respected. Paying tribute to his legacy, Dube shared an emotional Instagram post after his demise.

Yadav took to his X handle and wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Padma Shri DY Patil sir. His contribution as a philanthropist, educator and his social service will forever be remembered. This legacy inspired us all. Om Shanti.”

Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, named after him and owned by the DY Patil Group, has hosted several IPL and international matches over the years. Apart from this, the DY Patil Sports Academy also organises the DY Patil T20 Cup, one of the prestigious corporate cricket tournaments in India.
The sports academy founded under Dr. DY Patil’s name has also supported several domestic teams and tournaments, contributing towards the growth of cricket at different levels.
Dr. DY Patil’s son, Dr. Vijay D. Patil, has continued the family’s association with cricket administration and currently serves as the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Although Shivam Dube did not have a direct connection with Dr. DY Patil, his bond with the DY Patil legacy remains special. The DY Patil T20 Tournament played an important role in Dube’s career, as his performances there helped him gain recognition and provided a launching platform for his cricket journey.
