There were constant calls to include Nabi in the national team, all backed by his performance over the last 2 years. He pulverized domestic batting line-ups, plundering 104 wickets. Crucially, his 60 wickets during the 2025–26 campaign served as the central engine behind Jammu and Kashmir’s historic, maiden Ranji Trophy title triumph.
To ignore a fast bowler who single-handedly drags a non-traditional cricketing powerhouse to a national championship would render the structure of domestic competition meaningless.
Surely, stepping in for an irreplaceable titan like Bumrah is an immense challenge. Yet, Nabi arrives battle-tested, having further sharpened his red-ball credentials with 6 wickets in 2 matches for India A during their tour of Sri Lanka.
At 29 years old, his selection rebukes the notion that international doors shut early or that selectors only have eyes for teenage prodigies. But it does leave a question.
