After winning the 2025 Women’s World Cup, many Indian players no longer need an introduction, and Renuka Singh Thakur is one of them. While many people know the bowler’s glory, they may not know the story behind it. Let’s take a look at this women’s cricketer’s personal life and cricket journey.

Renuka Singh Thakur’s Early Life and Family Background

The 30-year-old cricketer was born on January 2, 1996, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Her father, Kehar Singh Thakur, worked in the Irrigation and Public Health Department and was very passionate about cricket.

He dreamed of seeing his children play cricket, but sadly, he passed away in 1999 when Renuka was just three years old. Since then, she was raised single-handedly by her widowed mother, Sunita Singh Thakur.

Apart from this, Renuka has a brother named Vinod Singh Thakur. Interestingly, the right-arm medium-fast bowler’s father was a huge cricket fan, and her brother was named after former cricketer Vinod Kambli.

Renuka completed her schooling at GSS School, Dharamshala, followed by her middle and senior secondary education at JAV Senior Secondary School, Kangra. She then graduated from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and Khalsa College, Amritsar.

How Did Renuka Singh Thakur Start Her Cricket Journey?

During her school days, the Shimla-born cricketer used to play cricket with her elder brother and the boys from her village. Impressed by her bowling at school, her uncle, Bhupendra Singh Thakur, who was a village PT teacher, decided to send Renuka to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) when she was just 13 years old.

At the HPCA, Renuka received the right guidance and was shaped into a proper bowler. In October 2021, she made her T20I debut against Australia, followed by her ODI debut against New Zealand in February 2022.

She played a major role in India’s silver medal win at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker. The same year, she was also named the ICC’s Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2022.

From the beginning until 2025, Renuka played for RCB and also won the WPL title with the team in 2024. But, now, this Himachal-born cricketer represents Gujarat Giants in the WPL.

Renuka’s significant contribution did not end there. During the 2025 Women’s World Cup, she played an important role in India’s title-winning campaign, featuring in five of the team’s seven matches and taking three wickets.

Renuka Singh’s Relationship Status and Personal Life

India women’s jersey No. 10 keeps her romantic and personal life quite private. Renuka Singh Thakur has not married yet; that much is certain. As for her relationship status, she can be considered single, as there is no information available about any past or present relationship.
