The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final between India Women and Sri Lanka is currently underway, but Sri Lanka have suffered a major setback as Vishmi Gunaratne has picked up an injury during the match.

Vishmi Gunaratne Suffers Injury Scare During Asia Cup Final

India’s opening pair of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana were putting immense pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers when captain Chamari Athapaththu came on to bowl to steady things for Sri Lanka.

It was during this period that Vishmi Gunaratne was seen slipping while fielding, bringing the game to a halt. The physio crew quickly came onto the field, and the Sri Lankan cricketer was helped off the ground.

At this stage, details about how serious the injury is and whether Vishmi will be able to return to the game are still awaited.

For context, Vishmi Gunaratne had come into Sri Lanka’s playing XI today as a replacement for Sanjana Kavindi. With Sanjana already unavailable due to injury, Vishmi’s own injury scare could now become another major concern for Sri Lanka in the final.

However, Sri Lanka received a major boost in the second innings when Vishmi Gunaratne was seen back at the crease after the dismissal of Imesha.

With the target still a big one, it will be interesting to see whether Vishmi can help Sri Lanka fight their way back from this situation.
